about

In 2012, my son was born with a moderate to severe hearing loss. While I personally struggled to understand how this would affect him, myself and my family, I felt guilty listening to music and found little enjoyment or time for writing songs. 7 months after his birth, my father passed away and I felt like giving up on music altogether. As the next few months passed, Asher's hearing loss progressed into the profound range rendering him completely deaf without the benefit of being able to use hearing aids any more.

Prior to this song, my music writing hiatus lasted about 8 years. And although it took nearly two years to find the nerve and words to write this particular piece, this song encompasses my feelings about learning about and accepting Asher's hearing loss and the unconditional love I have for my son.

I plan to use the proceeds of the sale of this track to help defray medical costs as well as donate toward programs that assist with hearing. Still working out those details, but want to make sure that nobody who is an eligible candidate be denied the option of hearing due to financial hardship.

*A special thanks goes out to Allan Goodman, one of my best friends of over 22 years who recently passed away. Allan guided me through the writing process by helping me find my voice again while giving me the confidence to release and share this song with the world.

"HEAR MY HEART" (A Song for Asher)
Written by Michael Goldberg
2/17/2014

VERSE I
A hush befell our empty room,
The news was too much for me too soon.
With my head in my hands
I tried to understand,
How this could have happened to you?

VERSE II
And nothing ever really made sense...
Trying to sort through the anger
And get things off my chest.
All my dreams seemed to fade away,
Afraid your voice might only be a memory
In this silent parade.

CHORUS
But if you could hear my heart,
Bursting with love for you,
If you could hear my heart,
Then you'd know these words won't do.

VERSE III
We took you home thinking things might change
But learned nothing would ever be the same.
We did our best to give you all we had,
A loving home, a caring mom and dad.
Afraid your life might be full of pain,
Wondering if you'd ever hear your name
When we called out to you.

CHORUS
But if you could hear my heart,
Bursting with love for you
If you could hear my heart,
Then you'd know no words would do.

BRIDGE
And it tore my heart out,
I cried my eyes out,
Just hoping you'd turn your head.

Every night I prayed
There'd come a day
That you would hear me sing to you.

CHORUS X 3
If you could hear my heart,
Bursting with love for you
If you could hear my heart,
Then you'd know no words would do.
